Watching the season at this point is borderline depressing |

Good stuff, Todd. Agree on Vatanen--dude has been a beast since the trade. His numbers clearly support the idea that the Devils have one really good defenseman and 5 other "bleh" guys. I thought Moore, Lovejoy, and Butcher were brutal last night.
I get building a team around speed, and I can't argue the results and entertainment value, but last night the Devils got outright bullied. They might have Boyle, Maroon and to a lesser degree, Wood, but they got pushed around big time last night. And that doesn't just mean the big hits on Zajac and Hall, all night they were losing battles for the puck specifically in the d-zone. Been an issue all year but the good teams really expose this. |

They were clearly the better team - Todd.Cordell
I hate this term. The goalie is part of the team. You can say that the Devils controlled the majority of the play, or that their skaters were clearly better than the other team's skaters, but part of the team is the goalie. Sometimes your skaters win you a game, sometimes the goalie wins you a game. Either way, they're both a part of the team. |

Absolutely. There was one point last night where him and Wood could have had a 2 on 2 potentially a 2 on 1 and he just decided to slowly skate to the bench for a change instead. I'm not sure how long of a shift it had been, but how do you pass up a good rush when you're losing/having trouble scoring? Wasn't happy with that.
Maroon is the slowest guy on the ice, but at least he's been producing. |

That second goal Cory gave up was unacceptable, probably would've gotten a point out of the game if not for that.
Palms was a beast last night!
Even though they were clean hits on Zajac and Hall it was sad to not see any kind of retaliation on the Devils part. I'm not saying go out and fight everyone but damn show a little toughness. They were pushing us all over the ice. |

I completely disagree about putting Cory back in next game. And that’s not cause I think KK is better - he isn’t. But Cory has had all season to get this figured out and hasn’t. One more game isn’t likely to change whatever is going on at this point whether it’s injury, psychological or both.
KK is less of a liability right now and gives the team a chance to get points and make the playoffs. That’s the only thing that matters currently. Whether Cory feels good enough or is good enough to play in the playoffs is irrelevant if you don’t make them in the first place. |

not looking good for the PLayoffs.
Brabs and Coleman need to bury those chances.
Nico looked very good ,but he missed the met a few times also.
Bratt still playing scared.
Vatanen . Palmieri , Hall , Nico , Maroon , Gibbons . all very good games.
Wood , severson , Bratt , Noesen , Cory . not so Much..
Bottom line ther goalie was much better than ours. AGAIN .

If you think the jets did it right then you can see that the Devils are on on the right track too. So much speed/skill, Schneider will come out of this funk and get back to being top 8 goalie.
As for the physical play we were missing Lowry, Trouba, Scheiffle (could even throw Mathias in). Even with those guys in the lineup we were rag-dolled when playing Anaheim.
You have a good team over there, entertaining - don't forget to enjoy the game when critiquing them.

You do realize lovejoy screened him. Go back and look at the replay from schnieds angle you can’t see him shoot it till it’s already by him. |

Our team was so fast this season, then Boyle played, then Zajac, then Maroon... They cant keep adding these slow people and expect to play a fast game or have a fast identity. |

Maroon is slow a poo but I love his battle and compete ( or what he's shown so far ) He was out there battling with big buff for net front presence and is pretty good along the boards during a cycle. He might not address a speed need but speed is not our only need and i was certainly getting sick of the team being pushed around and he helps in pushing back. I also think and this is just my opinion that he will likely resign here, where as i think grabs walks and becomes wasted assets. |

Totally agree. Overall team speed is important but it’s not a skating party out there. You need guys to bring different abilities to the team. I like Maroon and wouldn’t mind resigning him. |

Grabs seems like a great match for AVs system. Not so much for whatever Hynes is doing. Although I don’t think he’s looked bad at all. Just hasn’t finished. |
